Doha is performing a kind of “diplomatic prostitution” against the Arab boycott Quartet. It uses its media arms, such as Al Jazeera, the New Arab and others, to publish a number of forged reports that target Gulf states.
Tamim tried to recruit a number of US politicians who appear regularly on Al Jazeera from the United States, to give their reports an international tone in order to trick the Arab viewer.
Tamim found what he needed, Sen. Bob Corker, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, as one of the defenders of the Qatari regime in the US.
Qatar has vigorously sought to connect with US decision-making circles to try to pressure the Arab countries indirectly to dampen the decision on its economy.
American media have leaked details of an informal meeting between Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Senator Bob Corker and his deputy in Washington, before Doha media acknowledged that the meeting was held to discuss developments in the Arab region.
The actual results emerged a week after the meeting, when Al Jazeera published and extended report on Corker’s request for Washington to reduce arms sales to the Gulf states boycotting Doha, in a move to pressurize Arab countries in favor of Qatar.
