Qatar has witnessed one day of rain equivalent to the country's total in one year due to bad weather and rainstorm, the Daily Express reported, adding that this caused a disruption of World Cup projects in Qatar.
The newspaper said that the very bad weather caused a paralysis in the daily life of Qatar, obvious from the transfer of flights to Kuwait or Iran instead of landing in Doha, and the closure of universities, public institutions and embassies.
The Education City stadium in Doha where matches at the 2022 World Cup are scheduled be played was one of the worst affected areas.
Steff Gaulter, a senior meteorologist with Al Jazeera, blamed the “baked sand” for the flooding.
He said: "If you get heavy rain in the desert it often floods quite quickly because the sand is baked hard in the sun and there's not much vegetation.”
