FIFA suspended the former head of the Zambian football federation and former African footballer of the year, Kalusha Bwalya, for two years over allegedly accepting bribes related to hosting the next World Cup in Doha 2022.
FIFA’s Ethics Committee said on August 10 that it has suspended Bwalya, who chaired the Zambian Football Association and member of the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for two years from "all activities related to football (administrative, sports, etc.) at the local and international levels”, Reuters reported.
FIFA said in a statement it was conducting an investigation into the 54-year-old Bwalya since February 2017. The investigation "focused mainly on the benefits Mr. Bwalya received from Qatari businessman Mohammed Bin Hammam.”
The statement continued, "The judicial sector of the Ethics Committee concluded that Bwalya violated Article 16 (confidentiality) and Article 20 (on the acceptance and offering of gifts and other benefits) of the FIFA Code of Values . Mr. Boualia was also fined 100,000 Swiss francs ($100,573.2).
