General Chairman of 98 House Movement, Bernard AM Haloho said Indonesia is likely to host the 2022 World Cup replacing Qatar.

"There are several factors that support this plan," said Bernard, in Jakarta, Wednesday (2/28/2018).

Bernard said FIFA had decided Qatar as the host of the 2022 World Cup, but the unfavorable development of political situation and the alleged involvement of Qatar related to the bribery case of former FIFA President Sepp Blatter emerged, so there is a possibility that the world's top soccer body would revise Qatar's appointment.

Bernard said the two factors could serve as a golden opportunity for Indonesia to submit a proposal as the host of the 2022 World Cup.

Indonesia is also considered to have no extreme tropical climate compared to other Asian countries, such as Japan, South Korea or Arab countries or Australia.

Another factor, according to Bernard, football or soccer is a popular sport in Indonesia, unlike in other countries where there are other more popular sports that could potentially interfere with the rhythm of the sport as a whole.

Bernard also sees Indonesia as a country with the highest number of Muslims in the world will benefit politically when replacing Qatar by conveying the message of Islam world peace through football.

In terms of infrastructure, Bernard said Indonesia has 12 stadiums scattered from Sumatra to Papua that meet international standards based on FIFA's assessment.

Bernard, as quoted by Antara acknowledged that the AFF will propose Indonesia and Thailand to host the 2034 World Cup at a meeting in Bali some time ago.
