Marianne magazine: Doha rents a hotel in Paris for 20 million euros

A report by the French magazine “Marianne” titled "And now Marine Hotel, How far will Qatar go into Paris?", The ruling family in Qatar concluded a deal worth at least 20 million euros, to display pieces of property belonging to the ruling family at “Marine” hotel, as part of Doha's attempts to whitewash its image internationally.

The French Marine Hotel will host an exhibition for the ruling family in Qatar, the magazine said, noting that before 2011 the hotel was under the management of the French army, and then handed over to the government for sale.

The French newspaper Le Monde revealed that the French National Memorial Center signed a contract with Qatari authorities, seven years after the hotel, located at Concorde Square in Paris, was handed over, in order to rent the place for Qatar to display Al Thani property. The contract is worth more than 20 million euros for a period of 20 years.

“Marianne“ pointed out that for nearly a decade, Qatar has sought to increase its influence in Paris, secretly and publicly. The magazine has monitored the property of the ruling family in France, most notably the Paris Saint-Germain (€ 50 million in 2011). “Growing more tightly in control, the gas emirate took over the real estate in beautiful Parisian neighborhoods with millions of euros."
