The Arab boycott pushed Qatar Airways to heavy losses, dropping 20% of the company's revenues, losing 11% of its destinations. Qatar Airways is making illogical offers to attract passengers, offering cheap business class tickets for round-trips to Maldives for only £750.
Qatar Airways CEO, Akbar Al Baker, acknowledged the crisis and stressed the company's need for new sources of funding to keep up with business and activity.
Specialized websites found the Qatari discounts ridiculous, and the Maldives is the most sought-after destination in the world, and prices are lower than some in economy class flights.
The company relied on covering the difference out of Qatari citizens’ pockets, as it increased the prices of flights from Doha airport by more than 150%, which drew the ire of Qataris who complained on social media platforms.
