Qatar and Houthis: Public flirtation

  • باسم الحوثي

The harmonious language in Yemen between the leaders of Houthi militias and Qatari officials is no longer "secret" as before. Since the four countries boycotted Doha a year ago, the Qatari masks have fallen successively, Al Jazeera paved the way for such turn to deliver Houthi voices through its platforms.

The Qatari position in Yemen, although it appears as a mere antagonism towards the Quartet countries, is in fact an exhibition of Doha’s rulers’ method which they have experienced for years, by disregarding the lives of Yemeni people and their lives and exploiting their suffering as a card in the political strife to serve special agendas, even if the price was thousands of innocent Yemeni lives.

Qatar, which funds the Houthis in Yemen and promotes them in their media and broadcasts from Sanaa, excessively provokes Yemenis and Arabs by looking for an opportunity to "reveal" what’s hidden under the pretext of "protecting civilians".

Doha’s Foreign Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani , tweeted that developments in Yemen call for giving priority to the political solution, and the use of a national dialogue involving all Yemeni parties, and international action to ensure the protection of civilians, “the region bears no more wars and gambling on account of people’s lives”.

Muhammad Ali al-Houthis quickly "valued" him with allegiance and gratitude for "funding" as well as regarding the Qatari minister as a "peace advocate" in the eyes of a group that destroyed the lives of millions of Yemenis.

Gulf politicians and intellectuals were not surprised by this harmony in the drawing of words between the Qatari minister and the leader of the Houthi, as both of them see things in Yemen with an averted eye.
