After the US Congress confirmed that the Muslim Brotherhood was a threat to national security, the subcommittee on national security in Congress announced that Qatar had provided weapons to some terrorists in Libya with the aim of toppling the regime of the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi during the events of 2011.

In a statement, the committee said that during the events of 2011 in Libya, the terrorist Ali Salabi's followers received assault rifles, rocket launchers, small weapons and military training from Qatar.

Qatar also provided the terrorist Abdul Hakim Belhadj with at least three cargoes that went to the western mountain, where Belhadj was leading a group of rebel fighters against Gaddafi regime.

The Qatari support for extremists didn't stop after overthrowing Gaddafi in November 2011. The committee explained that Qatar and Turkey supported the "Dawn of Libya" operation in 2014 against the elected and internationally recognized government and expelled it from Tripoli.

The committee also highlighted the history of Belhadj and Salabi, and their role in spreading chaos in Libya, explaining that Salabi lived in Qatar before 2011, where he learned by the MB's godfather Yusuf al-Qaradawi. Belhadj is a Libyan fighter group, affiliated with al-Qaeda and classified as a terrorist group in the United States.

After overthrowing Gaddafi,Salabi formed the National Rally for Freedom, Justice and Development, a name similar to the Turkish Justice and Development Party and the MB's Freedom and Justice Party in Egypt.

Belhaj, for his part, announced the launch of the Al Watan party and failed to win any seats in each of the 2012-2014 elections.

The committee continued that Belhadj trained members of Ansar al-Sharia in Tunisia, a US sanctioned group. Al Watan Party, according to the Congressional Committee, joined other militias in Operation Dawn of Libya in 2014 and established a government with the support of Qatar and Turkey.

The committee explained that both Salabi and Belhadj are now on a list of 59 people accused by anti-terror countries of having links to terror and receive Qatari support.
