In the early hours of Thursday morning, a pensioner was hit and killed by a Qatar-registered Rolls-Royce supercar near London’s Buckingham Palace.

The man, 66, was struck by a Rolls-Royce Wraith vehicle at 3.14am on Thursday while crossing the road at Hyde Park Corner, only minutes from the British royal residence, reported the National.

He was declared dead at the scene. The driver stopped and there have been no arrests, but enquiries continue, especially in relation to informing next of kin.

The model cost from £258,000 (Dh 1.15 million) to buy new and the crash left a large crack on the windscreen.

There is no suggestion that the driver was speeding at the time of the crash.

Detective Constable Chris May said: “ This is very busy section of road and I am sure there would be a number of people who witnessed the collision or the events leading up to it. I would ask those people to contact police and in particular anyone who was in the area and may have dash cam footage. Your information could be vital in helping us understand the cause of this tragic incident.”

Although the supercars attract car spotters, some residents complain about the engine noise levels.
