Qatar’s educational sector raises concerns

Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad marginalized Qatari teachers as he allowed his mercs to control Doha’s educational firms.

It was mentioned in the official website: “For the fifth year in a row, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) has launched the Tamkeen Training Program (Educational Empowerment Program) for new teachers for the 2019-2020 academic year”.

The ministry alleged it will train almost 660 expatriate teachers to fill the gap, claiming that it targets continuous development to obtain professional licenses.

This is considered as a malicious and twisted move aims at marginalising the local teachers, including the most skilled and qualified ones. It would allow the Muslim Brotherhood to control the education sector in Qatar.

As a response, Qatari teachers launched a campaign to express their anger. They criticized the measures that the government has taken recently, including dismissing local teachers while depending on expatriates. They also resorted to early retirement due to their frustration.

In a similar pattern, Female teachers suffer from arbitrary and unjustifiable dismissals. The education sector as a whole in the Gulf country witnesses a huge decline in the number of local teachers. The official data and statistics referred that there are only 205 Qatari teachers who work within the state.

It became very clear that Doha’s failed policies led to fewer national cadres in the public schools, as local teachers began to leave the career and work in other sectors. The main reason behind their move was that the ministry preferred foreign teachers to the local professionals.

This kind of injustice will inevitably affect the educational level in a negative way. The graduates of the College of Education resorted to other careers, as they realized that Hamadeen deliberately marginalized Qataris and excluded local professionals for the sake of foreign teachers who affiliate to the Muslim Brotherhood
