Erdogan has recently exploited the Emir of the small state, during the latter's visit to Ankara , Erdogan sought to give the Turkish Lira a push to reassure the investors. The Emir of Qatar went to persuade Erdogan to release the American priest. The Turkish presidency immediately announced a direct investment of 15 billion dollars.

Tamim was surprised by the news of the alleged support and expressed his fears of the US reaction to the move, but Erdogan argued that it was a matter of propaganda by local media only, which invoked a great confusion between the parties.

Despite that Doha’s support is not enough to save the failing Turkish economy, the Turkish Lira needs $100 billion to recover from the US sanctions, after it fell against the dollar at a rate of 49% since the beginning of 2018. Turkish debts exceeded 452.7 billion, collapse of the lira threatens Ankara’s financial centers with bankruptcy, especially after the trade deficit exceeded $85 billion dollars per year.
