The peninsular state, boycotted by the Arab quartet for sponsoring terror and siding with Iran, hasn’t been involved in any recent wars and doesn’t have the manpower to manage and operate the plethora of weapons and military equipment it has acquired in recent years. Yet, that hasn’t stopped the oil-rich state from buying 5 different missile defence systems.
American anti-missile system THAAD, Qatar announced buying two units of the air defence system in 2012 for $6.5 billion. In 2016, Tamim advisors met Israeli army officials to negotiate a 2-bln-dollar deal to acquire Israel’s Iron Dome. A year later, on Qatar’s national day, Qatar unveiled that it had bought China’s SY-400 offensive missiles with a 480 km range that can reach Riyadh.
No to be confused with Russia’s S-400 Missiles with a range of 400 km, which surpasses Qatar’s airspace.
And finally back to America, Qatar’s Patriot guided missiles will become operational under US management and supervision.
