Erdogan confirms: The $500 mln. aircraft is a gift from Tamim

Turkish President said Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the luxury plane he received, worth half a billion dollars, is a gift from the Emir of Qatar.  

In response to criticism on the purchase of a luxury plane, Erdogan said that Qatar donated it to Turkey and not him personally.

Erdogan added that the Emir of Qatar donated the $500 million plane to the Turkey after he learned of the country’s desire to acquire it.  

According to Turkish media reports, Qatari Prince Tamim bin Hamad gave a Boeing 747-8A to Ankara, which sparked a wave of attacks against Erdogan, asking whether the purchase of the plane was made through taxpayers' money. Erdogan told reporters on his return from Azerbaijan to his country: "Prince Tamim said he will not get the money from Turkey, he is giving the plane as a gift to Turkey."
